This one, however, is based on Scoop, and has the open submission queue and comment rating system that kuro5hin.org uses. phpWebLog - FreephpWebLog is a small collection of PHP scripts that allows you to setup a news-oriented discussion website, much like slashdot, kuro5hin, etc in a matter of minutes. It shares variables declared in a single configuration file and uses a MySQL database to store all content. sips - Freesips is an integrated Weblog and link-indexing system written in PHP. It is aimed at those with access to databaseless, PHP-enabled Web servers who want to run a Weblog site like Slashdot and/or a simple link index like Yahoo!. MyNews - FreeThis is a set of php3 scripts that allows you to list, delete, and edit news/what's new items on your web site. It uses MySQL for storing data and supports multi-languages including English, French, German, Dutch and more. Igloo Weblog - Free (GPL)Igloo is a weblog application written in PHP which powers such sites as Mr. Penguin (http://mrpenguin.org) and Class of 97(http://classof97.org). Igloo uses a MySQL database on backend for data handling. It currently features article posting, polls, user registration and management, article commenting, and more. netwarriors foundation - FreeThis is a development site for site_foundation, a "post-your-story-here" type application written in PHP using MySQL on backend not unlike slash or Thatware. Its main difference lies in its backend, user levels to determine who sees what and a cleaner administartive interface. Additionally site_foundation tries to encourage users to post longer articles, reducing the signal/noise ratio. inertianews - Freeinertianews is a php news, or web-log, management script designed for the more advanced webmaster, who may already have some experience with php, but is looking for a powerful news system that can be dropped inside their own site designs. inertianews was designed so that it could, in most situations, be seamlessly integrated into a sites design, in a way that wouldn't require the webmaster to hack apart the code to change formatting. All of inertianews' output is based on html templates, with special code inserted into it. phpNews - Free (GPL)phpNews is a collection of php scripts designed to display and maintain a news section on your web page. phpNews uses a MySQL database on backend for data storing. NUNE News Script - Free (BSD)NUNE is a powerful news script which features complete Web-based administration, Web-based posting, unique user logins with different access levels, a fully-featured comments system, advanced archiving, customizable templates, and ease of use. Filebased News Mangagement - FreeThis is a simple PHP script that lets you add text news to your homepage through a Web admin interface. It allows you to add, delete, modify and list the news articles. Methods used include: form handlin, file handling, POST method, and Arrays. HotNews - FreeHotnews is a news generator written enterily in PHP. It consists of two parts. A main engine that display's the news and an administrative interface to add, modify and delete news. It is enterly based on templates so it is very easy to change the layout to fit your requirements. BlueBoy What's New - FreeThe author writes, "I was looking for a simple what's new database front and backend for my web site. I found all the tools but no ready-made app that would allow me to just drop and go. So to make a contribution to the php community and to help those who are starting out, and to have some fun, I have released this drop and run What's New app". Main features include: Display news items with a date, subject, who posted it, text of news, and a link for email or web page easily, and A admin page to make adding news items very easy. Nope - Free (GPL)Nope is an Open Source, lightweight alternative to the Zope/Slashdot style interactive web page/news source. It's modelled after Zope, but is written from scratch in PHP/MySQL. For an example of Nope in action, see http://www.ibooklinux.net. DOINS - Free (GPL)DOINS is an interactive web site wherein anyone with common interests may share news. News stories are submitted to the webmaster, who then posts them onto the main page. Then other people can make comments on them. Right now, DOINS is basically a feature-incomplete replica of slashdot.org. DOINS is a heavily database-driven web application, powered by the Linux operating system, Apache webserver, mySQL database, PHP, and a bit of Perl. Squash - FreeSquash is a news forum system based on the web using PHP/SQL. This works in a similar fashion to that of sites like Slashdot. It features: small, simple to administrate, article posters, commenters or just plain readers, unlimited forums/topics, a search engine and flexible API. phpMNews - FreephpMNews is a German News Posting system, based on PHP3 and MySQL. It features: allow others to post news which you can verify before making them publicly available, option to display all news or a predefined set of news, a Web form-based news posting and editing, an installation script and more. WebNews - FreeWebNews is a set of PHP scripts that allows you to setup and manage news segment on your Web site. It features: Uses MySQL for storing data on backend, Supports multiple user levels, Template-based easy customization, and more. PHP3 News Script - FreeThis is a simple PHP3 script for displaying news on a website. The news items are stored in a MySQL database. newspaper.php - FreewareNewspaper.php is a php program which concatenates all valid Web pages out of a bundle in a directory. But only those which are needed for today. You decide which pages shall be visible by a configuration file called newspaper_include.php which you simple edit by notepad. All this is driven by a file where all the articles are mentioned by there html-filename, begin-to-publish-date and end-to-publish-date. This php program has been written to be easily maintained also by unexperienced people. The 314 KB file includes a whole directory with a larger example which works out of the box and is easy to change to your own need. Has been successfully tested on a live Web site.
